An announcement earlier this week reported that Marvel has chosen Kat Coiro to helm “She-Hulk” as Director and executive producer for the new Disney+ Original TV show written and produced by Jessica Gao.
Sources has reported to Deadline this morning that Jennifer Susan Walters ‘AKA’ She-Hulk finally got her casting. Tatiana Maslany will play the role of the MCU superhero/lawyer.
In the Marvel Comics, Jennifer’s parentage is inextricably linked to her eventual transformation into the She-Hulk. She was born to William Walters, a sheriff in Los Angeles County, and Elaine Walters, who died in an accident when Jennifer was 17. Though innately shy and often struggling with confidence issues, Jennifer became an attorney with a thriving career, until a crime boss, Nicholas Trask, shot and seriously injured her to get back at William. Luckily for Jennifer, her cousin Bruce Banner, the Incredible Hulk himself, happened to be in her native Los Angeles when it happened.
A blood transfusion provided by Bruce helped heal Jennifer causing her to become a large, powerful green-hued version of herself; however, unlike Banner, she still largely retains her personality – in particular, she retains the majority of her intelligence and emotional control, although like Hulk, she is still susceptible to outbursts of temper and becomes stronger if enraged. In later issues of the comics, her transformation is permanent.
Maslany is mostly know for her role in the BBC drama “Orphan Black“, for which she was nominated for 3 Emmys, wining Lead Actress in a Drama Series. She also received one Golden Globe nomination for the same.
She-Hulk is another Marvel original series joining some of the other superhero shows on Disney Plus like WandaVision, The Falcon & Winter Soldier, & Loki. We are excited to see this interconnected universe they keep talking about between the MCU & the MDPlusU(?).
The series is slated to premiere in 2022.
